We're having a birthday! Organize it, Inc. is celebrating its 10 year anniversary! I actually started the business on a part-time basis in 1992 and the rest, as they say, is history. It's been a great 10 years, larguely due to clients such as yourself. There are lots of new trainings and services I'm kicking off this year and you'll be able to read about them in this very first eNewsletter. This will replace the printed version I have been sending out. Enjoy! My Birthday Present from the NFL...and they didn't even know it!As with any business, there have been bumpsa ndd curves in the road, but friends and family kept encouraging me to persevere. Then one day I received a phone call asking if I would be interested in giving a presentation to a group of NFL players. That's right. National Football League guys. Wondering why and how that happened? Well here's the story. Ryan McNeil is President and CEO of an organization he founded called Professional Business and Financial Network (PBFN). Ryan himself is a pro athlete and was playig for the San Diego Chargers when I met him. He is very much a visionary and founded PBFN to help current and former pro athletes prepare for life after their playing days are over. He asked if Iwould come to his first conference. I was surprised and asked why professional athletes would need to hear from a professional organizer. He said, "...if I need this type of help, then many of these players also need it especially as they begin second careeres and new businesses." I subsequently attended two PBFN conferences where I delivered my program on paper and time management. But I gained much more than I gave. I listened to players tell their story about victories and challenges in their on-field and off-field life. What impressed me most was how the word 'failure' never entered their vocabulary. If a play on the field did not work they simply got up and tried again...and again...and again. Some of them had already started a business and faced obstacles. But theyg ot the help or advice they needed and kept moving forward. They had vision and knew their goals---they persevered. If these athletes expected things to go smoothly the first time out, they would not be able to play ball or run a business. if I wanted Organize it to be a perfect business during these last 10 years, I would have never seen this anniversary. And the same is true for you if you are facing organizing and time management challenges. It does not happen in one day or one afternoon. It takes a realistic level of expectation, moving forward one day at a time and maybe getting some outside help. Keep your eye on the ball and keep moving forward. Reward yourself for small accomplishments and most of all...persevere! With my thanks to all of you who have helped me to persevre these past 10 years. |

Organizing Matters - Client stories of challenges, solutions and successes The Challenge... The Soution...It's all about executing and not just listing tasks. I made 2 recommendations. First, to add tasks directly to her calendar. By doing that, the calendar drives her day and things get done. Second, create and use a 'tickler' system to store information she may need after looking at her calendar to see what's due that day. |

Book Nook - The review of a book that could help you improve your organizing and time management skills Ready for Anything by David Allen In the fall of 2001, I reviewed Davd Allen's first book, Getting Things Done and now he has publisehd his second book, Ready for Anything. It's about clearing your head for the creative part of your brain to work and create workable systems for yourself. He calls it 'managing your mind, not your time' and it's so true. Much of David's thoughts are based around his martial arts training and management background. The goal is clarity and execution. |
