The Government Needs to get Organized The effect and devastation of Hurricane Katrina on the gulf coast is no secret. The response of the government agencies involved is also no secret. It seems that this was very much a case of the right hand not knowing what the left hand was doing. The sytsems, or lack thereof, at various levels of government appeared to be almost non-existent or at the very least non-functioning. Eventually the finger-pointing stopped. But the displacement of citizens, loss of human life and devastation of property was almost more than one could imagine. I wonder what's happening behind government scenes to outline a plan to minimize losses of any potential future occurrence. So I have a suggestion for these agencies and their leaders. Get organized. It sounds so easy, doesn't it? Of course, it isn't. But we need to start somewhere. Just like when you know your office environment is so chaotic that you have lost...time, paper, peace of mind and work-life balance. You know organizing doesn't happen overnight. On the other hand, you don't need to spend a great deal of time analyzing or laboring over the best tools, methods or techniques to accomplish your goal. If your goal is to get ready for the new year, begin now! You're not the government. You can move quicker than that. So get organized, get focused and get going to be ready for 2006. Clear your desk. Clear your mind. Organize it.® |

Organizing Matters - Client stories of challenges, solutions and successes The Challenge... The Soution...First, I encouraged him to spend time on his priorities issues first thing in the morning...BEFORE picking up email. This helped him remain focused and take action on priority items. Second, I suggested he turn off the bell that sounds each time an email arrived in his inbox. It's simply another distraction that creates a sense of urgency, but rarely has hi-priority importance. |
